Project challenges

The Exide plant operates in an environment with clearly defined EHS standards, resulting from both industry regulations and the requirements of the global organisation. With the development of the plant and growing customer expectations, it was necessary to further strengthen the EHS area with help from a person who would bring a fresh perspective, support further streamlining of the system and help embed the issue of safety even more firmly in day-to-day management. The key was to combine a very good EHS base with a practical approach to working with the team on the production floor.

Integrating global standards with local practice

ensuring that corporate standards and policies are consistently reflected in the daily operations of the plant.

Clear division of roles and responsibilities in EHS

clarifying which tasks and areas belong to individual persons and teams, from production to maintenance and administration.

Developing EHS awareness on all levels

further development of attitudes, according to which safety is a natural part of the way of working, and not just a set of procedures.

Targets set

Strengthening the EHS system as an integral part of managing the plant

clarifying the role of the environment, health, safety and energy in day-to-day operational decisions.

Sorting of EHS targets and indicators

defining clear KPIs for the environment, safety and energy, as well as the way they are monitored.

Extending involvement in the safety department

increasing the involvement of management, change leaders and employees in improving EHS standards.

Preparation for further growth and audits

ensuring the consistency of the EHS system with the requirements of automotive industry customers and the group’s global standards.

Solutions implemented

EHS system review and clarification

analysis of existing procedures, policies and indicators, as well as the preparation of recommendations to harmonise the management of the environment, health, safety and energy areas.

Regular activities in EHS

planning a cycle of reviews, meetings and discussions with shift managers and leaders to reinforce the importance of safety in day-to-day management.

Development of training and communication

support in designing and conducting EHS training, reminding employees of standards and creating clear messages for employees.

Establishment of a functional EHS team

organisation of roles related to safety, fire protection, first aid and energy, and the development of rules for cooperation between these functions and the production area.
